Final Week

The final week of NET11 and NED11 that I’m also doing… What a ride… I have learn’nt so much during this time but feel totally overwhelmed still as to how I will save, store, compress and organize all my learnings for now and into my future studies..

But I will have a go at doing just that as I progress through the last week.

I have attempted to open “B.A. Nardi & V.L. O’day, ‘Information ecologies: using technology with heartFirst Monday i.4.5 1999, and media studies infobase as suggested in the Assignment outline, but both links were not working. Media studies infobase also redirected my browser to a hosting site..? So I will try again later. I found the article by Purdue, Jeff, “Stories, Not Information: Transforming Information Literacy”.

A central binding ingredient that I must always pay attention to is RESEARCH. Using the skill of researching effectively is critical to most studies and also daily life choices. And with proper researching techniques we need to consider how will harness the information and store it for future reference. A great tool that I have noticed people using, but not yet utilized involves del.icio.us . Del.icio.us is a social bookmarking site that has many advantages over conventional bookmark storage, and information storage methods. I have been meaning to use this tool for a while now, but have not had the fortitude to do so, until now. The method behind the madness that I have been using throughout the course and in my usual daily life is the standard browser bookmarks in firefox or IE. But I have so many folders and subsiduary folders with links to similar sites in different folders.. The other draw back is I forget what a lot of the site links are, as the system wont allow for site explainations. Also I cant acces this information when on another PC.

My delicious is silentwavez , and so the process has begun. I really feel this is a giant leap forwards for me, as I have been pretty concerned about my organization, flow and consistency. I have seen student delicious bookmarks and really enjoy the ones who have been using the system for a few years, who have the content and organization of years of study at thier finger tips, while also availiable to others.

Research : Learning Objectives

  • To recognize that we ‘do’ research all the time

  • To plan and prepare effective research

  • To identify and locate a range of appropriate resources

  • To practice critical evaluations of research sources

  • To use resources effectively and efficiently

  • To apply the skills gained to the current project/assignment required in the units being studied
